I’m in Thaïland. I sleep from 9:00 to 17:00. And it sucks. I barely see the sun.

So, my current project is to shift my sleep time.

Alarm clocks don’t really work. I get up very exhausted, and I often don’t get up at all actually. I go back to sleep.

I talked with ChatGPT, which told me about the importance of temperature in sleep.

Apparently, 18.5°C is the recommended temperature for sleep. I’ve been sleeping at 24°C, 5555!

So, now, I’m sleeping at 19°C. It’s cold at first, but my body adapts itself.

Then, I put a timer on the AC to wake me up at a given time in 90 minutes increments.

E.g. if I go to sleep at 3:00:

  • Add 20 minutes of buffer to fall asleep — 3:20
  • Add 90 minutes * 5, which is 7,5 hours of sleep — 10:50
  • Substract 20 minutes to let the temperature rise when the AC turns off — 10:30

So, I schedule the A/C to turn off at 10:30.

… fast forward 7,5 hours later: I wake up naturally! I am a bit sleep deprived, which is expected with only 7,5 hours of sleep (I need 10 to feel good), but I am awake, and it’s hard to go back to sleep.

I also set up my phone to block my “procrastination” apps when I wake up, which forces me to actually go outside and do something in my life rather than aimlessly talk with girls on Tinder or scroll on Instagram.

That’s it! I’m hopeful that this new approach to sleep will allow me to live a healthier life.

PS: did you know that beer is bad for libido? I’m stopping right now!!!
