For God’s Sake, Reverse-Engineer Your Goals!
Hey there; I was thinking ‘bout talking about my life again, but thought about an interesting idea at the last minute; reverse-engineering goals!
what is goal reverse-engineering?⌗
Goal reverse-engineering is the practice that I was taught over the course of the past two years. It allows oneself to truly find what they want and pick the most optimized course of action to reach their final goal.
Most people suck at strategy. Everyone wants to live a peaceful life, but they pick an unoptimized way to do so; either because they lack the mental power, or didn’t get a nudge in the right way. Some other people are unclear about their objectives.
I could go into examples, but I feel that it would be a waste of time; and also oversharing. I need to get better at writing, so I will do my best even if this blog is trash already…
What’s your dream?⌗
A dream is a final state that you want to achieve. It feels right for you to attain this state.
Here are some examples of dreams:
- Being good at acting
- being popular with girls (edit 01/10/23: turns out that it’s an anti-goal… A better way to phrase this is: finding a girl you like so much that you don’t care about being popular with girls 😉)
- being a popular DJ
- being good at programming
- being an astronaut
They are a vision that you have for yourself and that you wish to work for.
In my opinion, while it is possible, one should work towards these goals as hard as they can. True happiness is the opposite of depression. Psychological depression is caused by an inability to efficiently work towards a positive state. Consequently, one feels happiness by making progress towards their goals.
Now, you finally understood that you should write that book.
Do it, and come back if you’re ready to move to the next level!
…
What? You couldn’t write your book? Alright. I should’ve seen this one coming.
Working towards dreams requires tremendous resources. If you go down the causation line, time is the true bottleneck. Time is the only resource that you cannot buy; but you can acquire almost everything with it.
You cannot buy your time, but you can buy people’s time, mostly with money.
This will help you move the needle towards your dreams.
In conclusion
-
a human has or acquires dreams
-
by making progress towards them, they feel happiness (bliss)
-
dreams can be attained by throwing resources at them
- time, the mother of all other resources
- money, which allows you to acquire other’s time
A Common Dream: Wealth⌗
People who go down the rabbit hole realize that they must acquire wealth to efficiently make progress towards their dreams. Being wealthy might even become a dream along the way, which makes the process significantly easier to bear.
(the alternate route is that they realize that desire and ignorance are the root of all their problems; and that they should read philosophy books and appreciate the small things in life. But this is a capitalist blog, so bear with me)
So yeah, that’s pretty much it. Go get that bread. Once you’ve done that, you will be able to realize your true dreams, if you didn’t get hit by a truck in the meantime.
Strategizing Towards Wealth⌗
To acquire wealth, you could just sell your time endlessly, but that would be wasting potential. Sure, you need to do it when starting up, but then, you should use your time to enjoy time or improve the value of your time itself (that’s so meta!).
In my current worldview, the most optimal way to build wealth is probably to build and own a successful business. Of course, this only means that it’s the next step for me; not that it’s necessarily the next step for you. Every person’s path is different, and it’s OK to go do stupid stuff for a bit. You just lost time; but it would have disappeared anyway.
After Money?⌗
After money, then there is wealth.
You figure out that your paper bills only mean something as long as their emitting country has an army. So, you start diversifying, buying gold’n’stuff. I’m not a professional.
After wealth, there is power. But no-one can honestly tell you how it looks. That’s why billionaires don’t call each other out :)
And after power… There’s ego. You realize that you’ve been fighting with yourself since the beginning.
Some notes⌗
Improving Your Brains Improves The Value Of Your Time⌗
The value of your time is multiplied by the power of your body; more specifically, of your brains.
Consequently, it makes sense to dedicate a good chunk of your time to make yourself more efficient.
Here are the main ways that one can improve their brains:
- psychological improvements
- acquiring key information on areas of interest
- dedicate time to finding the right resources
- take notes
- blogs, YouTube videos, etc.
- don’t get stuck here
- experience
- just don’t stop doing stuff.
- acquiring key information on areas of interest
- physical improvements
- Nootropics
- basic healthy lifestyle
Drugs: why not?⌗
So, what about drugs? Well, IMO, that’s a terrifyingly reasonable choice if one wants to attain happiness over the short term. You could theoretically find a cocktail that makes you feel insane happiness; but will you feel as much as you could feel by living “normally” in an entire life? I’m assuming that infinite instant happiness will kill you after a bit of time.
I prefer to go for the long run and recommend using them sparingly instead of betting everything into one final Fentanyl snort.
In the meantime, you can experiment, and find a harmless drug combo to experience bliss. Maybe you could pick an intermediate dream that’s about building innovative recreational drugs?
