A Love Letter to Now
Living in the past is depression; living in the future is anxiety. What about now?
We suffer more in our imagination⌗
We suffer more in our imagination more often than in reality — Seneca
That, I take for granted now. Have you ever witnessed a friend agonizing about hypotheticals?
Did you let the prospect of having to wake up early tomorrow, ruin your evening?
Adverse events make life feel bad. Why do we insist on living them on repeat even before they happen?
The key is framing. My life is shit; but I can be happy by focusing on the split-second I’m experiencing.
I’ll do it as an experiment… I’m at my family house. I’m in the living room. I’m listening to my favourite musician. I’m typing on a keyboard I like (I like the sound of the keys). I like this moment in the music. I feel like I’m writing good text. I corrected my position. There are people I love, and a few people love me. I can feel emotions; <“Hey Siri, what’s the opposite of alas?">, I’m human.
Learn to put yourself in the split-second.
success = laser focus + long term vision⌗
Here’s the gist of it, from Sam Altman’s Researchers and Founders piece:
They have a laser focus on the next step in front of them combined with long-term vision. They have a laser focus on the next step in front of them combined with long-term vision. Most people only have one or the other. — Sam Altman
My cofounder is always thinking in big picture. How to make money? I’m always thinking in small picture. How to do it right?
This is why I strongly believe that we’ll encounter success… Even if it takes years. We have no excuses. I swear that I’ll make us create a religion.
Step by step⌗
Follow your destiny, step by step.
Your destiny is the long-term vision. It’s decided by you somewhere in your head, so don’t agonize over it…
You know who you want to become.
Society bent your dreams out of shape.
You forgot about becoming a drug lord, YouTuber and astronaut.
At least, do yourself a favour and become a musician, instead of living a miserable 9-5.
It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it. — Seneca
Do your darn best to attain your destiny. Do not waste time on side quests.
Why were you sent to earth?
Why are you not working on it?
Have a clear roadmap⌗
Having a clear roadmap will help you understand what you want to do, now. Make “working for the roadmap” the default action of your life.
Here’s mine. Because I need somewhere to think, and writing here forces me to be honest :)
My roadmap⌗
Requirements⌗
- Travelling (€2k/month)
- Rent in pricey places (€3k/month)
- Investing in projects (€4k/month)
I’m lazy, I won’t finish the list.
I want $10k/month
With a 6% YoY ETF, this means $2M in the bank.
Let’s say that I want to achieve this in 3 years.
This is… ~670k$/year, ~60k$/month
How can I reach this 60k$/month while having a great life, for 3 years?
My two revenue sources are:
- day job. Approx 5k$/month
- nightjob. Losing money as I write
Dayjob is offering me a revenue share. This might give me 50% of what I need.
I lied about night job. I’ve taken finances in my hand, and we’re in the positive last month. Like 1k$.
We scaled way harder than this in the past, with lower prices. We still have capacity to reach 20k$/month.
This might become my other 50%.
I like to take small gigs on the side. What is 500$/month, in terms of my revenue target? 0.8%. I should take on projects if they can at least reach 10% of my target pretty fast, which is 6k$ per month… God……
This looks impossible, but I feel like I will achieve it anyway 🙂
